Our aim has always been to breed koi of the highest quality but our emphasis has
to be on the health and welfare of our fish first and foremeost. We have developed
a way of working based on our experiences over the years. We do not buy fish in to
grow on and sell and we do not send our fish off site to be grown on elsewhere. Recent
and increasing concerns over disease issues in the koi industry have led us to conclude
that sending fish off site to be grown on would introduce an unnecessary element
of risk of bringing disease onto our farm once the fish returned to us. We now have
a policy that once a fish leaves our site, it can never return. This means that the
risk of bringing disease onto our site is once again kept to an absolute minimum.
Each new brood fish that we bring on to our site is quarantined off-
We are regulated by the Fish Health Inspectorate at Cefas, who are part of Defra, in Weymouth and they carry out tests biannually on our fish for diseases such as SVC. Our last inspection was in September 2007. If you would like to find out more about the tests available for KHV you can find Cefas Laboratories Ltd at www.cefastechnology.co.uk.
